MATERIAL NOTES
PU, Polyester or Corduroy: Choosing a Cosmetic Bag Material

Choose the material by the finish you want and the way the bag will be used. A material name is a starting point; the finished sample shows how the outer fabric, lining, seams and zip work together.
Understand what the labels describe
Polyester describes a fibre, while corduroy describes a ribbed fabric construction. Corduroy can itself be made with polyester, so these labels are not necessarily mutually exclusive. PU means polyurethane and may describe a coating or a synthetic surface construction. Confirm the complete specification if fibre content or coating composition is important to your order.
PU: consider the surface and structure
For a collection with a smooth visual finish, a PU style is an option to review. KITMIA’s KM-042 Polka Dot Vanity Bag combines a handled shape with a dotted surface in blush pink and mint green. Its material is listed as PU.
When checking a PU sample, examine the feel, flexibility, surface finish and stitching around curved corners. Ask for care instructions for the particular construction. The PU label alone does not establish that the complete bag is waterproof or suitable for a particular cleaning method.
Polyester: compare the actual finishes
Polyester bags can look quite different from one another. In the KITMIA range, KM-044 has a satin finish with vertical quilting, while other polyester styles use different textures and shapes. Choose from the finished appearance rather than assuming that every polyester bag has the same handle or structure.
Check the lining, body shape when loaded, zip action and the appearance of the seams. If you need water resistance, recycled content or a particular performance level, include that requirement in your enquiry and request confirmation for the selected product.
Corduroy: focus on the ribbed texture
Corduroy brings visible ribs to the surface, making texture part of the design. It can be useful when the collection needs a different look from a smooth vanity case or a satin pouch. KITMIA lists KM-001 as Corduroy.
Review the rib width, colour and texture on a physical sample. Check how your chosen logo looks against the ribs, and confirm the fibre composition separately if you need it for your product labelling.
A quick comparison for your shortlist
| Option | Visual direction | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| PU | Surface finish and shaped designs | Flexibility, corners, coating and care instructions |
| Polyester | Different woven and satin finishes | Specific fabric, lining, structure and any required tests |
| Corduroy | Visible ribbed texture | Rib width, logo placement and fibre composition |
Request the sample that answers your question
Tell us the product code, intended use and the material characteristics that matter to you. KITMIA sample fees depend on the style. Shipping is paid by the buyer, or you can provide a courier account for freight collect. Sample preparation takes 7–10 days.

Further material references: JKB Fabrics’ polyester corduroy specification and Diatex’s PU-coated polyester specification illustrate why fabric construction, fibre and coating should be specified separately. These are material references, not specifications for KITMIA products.
